Most of the time whether you are building from new or renovating a pre existing property. We would always start with what you have to begin with map the windows and doors. Will your kitchen sink be better looking out over the garden?

There are many different types of kitchen layout and although the go to thought is always to include an island, an island may make the space feel crowded. A growing trend at the moment is one wall kitchen layout with an island. This is great if you don’t have the width as you can still reach the fridge and have your sink and oven in the same zone.

As we see here with this customer the renovation was a knock through between a dark dining room and a sun lit south facing bay window. The space needed to become a sociable family friendly kitchen. After playing around with so many options the best choice was to work with what we actually had rather than the added expense of closing up windows or adapting current windows.

The food preparation area being the island with the dishwasher and bin either side of the sink. Allowing a effortless flow clearing the plates rinse and load the dishwasher.

Before picking a layout to look the part always remember function is the key, how do you use your current kitchen? Are you a keen chef at home with the need for storage for all the cake mixers or a need to store that all important air fryer? Or is it the case that the kitchen is that all important heart of the home?

The “triangle” theory is always good to keep in mind as it is adopted by so many kitchen designers for good reason. The idea being there should be easy access to the hob, sink and fridge as these are your key areas.
